SOS

dot dot dot dash dash dash dot dot dot

That’s my morse code SOS signal. I suppose I could just call you all and tell you I went overboard, but it hurts to talk.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. I wasn’t careful enough with what I wished for.

What did I wish for? Nothing big. Just a day off. For me, a day off means I don’t have to go to work and the kids don’t have to go to school or attend and/or compete in some school related activity.

To sum it up, it means I don’t have to go anywhere. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Certain people (who shall remain nameless until I write my RANTastic posts about them) have been stressing me out lately and I needed a break. When I’m stressed, I clench my teeth non-stop and my TMJ problems have been excruciating lately.

The day off was looking like it might happen! Wednesday, my parents had meetings in our office all day, so they said since they would be there all day, I could take the day off from work. OK!

A severe snow storm was also predicted for Wednesday. We could receive up to 14” of snow. Normally, I would groan at this, but that could only mean one thing. A snow day for the kids on the same day that I didn’t have to go to work.

We didn’t get 14” of snow, but we did get enough to cancel school. It was here! A 100% day off! Other than shoveling, snowblowing and trying to get the hubby’s car unstuck from the driveway, there was nothing that had to be done...except, of course, eating.

I bit into a piece of toast and OMG! Pain electrocuted the right side of my face and within seconds my neck and shoulder had seized up. I reached for the super strength Motrins and tried pushing all dislocated parts back into place. It worked, but I wasn’t able to close my mouth all the way. My front teeth were now hitting each other, instead of the lower ones sliding in behind the front teeth.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Now I had to go somewhere... an emergency trip back to my dentist! Fortunately, since I gave him my extra Bon Jovi tickets last summer, he says I am his favorite patient. Don’t tell anyone, it’s a secret, ok?

He poked, prodded and pulled and had the oral surgeon do the same. They agreed I had probably replaced it myself, however, I couldn’t close my mouth now due to inflammation, so they started writing prescriptions.

One for Flexeril, which I was warned “may cause drowsiness”. Drowsiness? It’s more like semi-comatose, but whatever.

The second was for something I had never heard of before. Methylprednisolone. It’s a steroid that comes in a specifically marked dosing pack. The first day of treatment includes 6 pills that are supposed to be taken throughout the day. Both dentists said to take all 6 at once as soon as I had the prescription filled.

Oh, and I’m supposed to call them immediately if I experience any personality changes or symptoms of psychosis.

I’m not sure that I will know I am psychotic over the sedation of the Flexeril, but ok, sure! I'm pretty agreeable. I can do that.

Maybe Wednesday wasn’t the day off I had in mind, but I technically did get my day off yesterday, in bed, drugged out of my mind. I’m supposed to be on these meds for a week, but I can’t see how that’s going to happen. I have to go to work today.

I guess I’ll just have to be more careful when making wishes, I guess!

There is one good thing. Since I was just able to lay there and do nothing but think for a day, I came up with quite a bit of blogging material! I have several posts in the works!

Every cloud has a silver lining, I guess. You just have to look for it.

lol - I can almost sort of relate... not at all on the pain level (SOOOO sorry about that!!) but when I have to go to the doctors office - which is every other week since I have a high risk pregnancy - they stick me in a room and say "the doctor will be with you shortly." "Shortly" evidently means 20 - 30 minutes. But no matter - I find that time alone, with no responsibility SO relaxing! And last visit I even worked up the nerve to adjust the exam table to my comfort (um, no - my feet were not in the stirrups :-p)
With my ipod, some snacks and some water it's like a mini-retreat. I look forward to that time!

Jessica: My last pregnancy was high risk, too and I remember all of the extra doctor visits. With mine, I ended up in the hospital for 6 weeks on complete bedrest before my son was born 6 weeks early. My due date was Oct 1st and he was born Aug 18th. I thought bedrest at home was bad. Being stuck in the hospital that long is worse....UGH! It all worked out, though, even though he was 6 weeks early, he was a tad over 5 lbs and his lungs were completely developed because I had taken steroids to help develop them more quickly. I got to bring him home just 2 days after he was born!

If wonder if I could just go to your doctor every two weeks for some peace and quiet? LOL

Owie!!! Are you feeling better now?

My hubby was prescribed Flexeril for his back, but he can only take it at night, and not every night.
