Happy New Year!

HAPPY 2008!

Did you all have a good time at your New Year’s celebrations?

You’d think The Rock Chick would enjoy New Year’s Eve.

It certainly has all the goodies...fancy parties, shimmery dresses, shiny tiaras, balloons and confetti, kisses at midnight over noisemakers with champagne toasts and caviar dreams for the year ahead.

Sounds like a fairy tale, right? All that's missing is a couple of friggin' bluebirds singing Zippity Doo Dah!

But, I don’t like it. I don’t like it at all. New Year’s Eve causes a lot of anxiety for me. All night I feel forced to relive parts of the past in an auld lang syne kind of madness all while juggling wonders of what the heck could happen in the future.

Will it be good?
Bad?
2007 was rather rough for me.
It can’t get rougher.
Or can it?
YIKES!
(Crazy, I know.) Where’s my Xanax?

And, as if the stroke of midnight really changes things for anyone other than Cinderella, I listen as people recite their New Year’s resolutions that I know darn well they won’t keep.

Do you make New Year’s resolutions?
I used to feel compelled to make them. Now I don’t.

I guess I shouldn’t say “never”. I am a total lightweight with alcohol. It’s probably because I rarely drink but last New Year’s Eve, I had one too many (two) Cuervo Black and Cokes. Even with my aluminum tiara, it wasn’t pretty. I did resolve to never have “one too many” of them again, along with regular tequila shots, rum, cosmos, chocolate martinis, blueberry schnapps and alligator shots. (OUCH!) And, I haven’t and I won’t.

I’m sure of that.

I can’t usually change anything until (I get sick like above..or..) I’ve hit my “fed up to here” level with something. I may want something to change but until I drag out the Catboots, it just ain’t gonna happen. I know that. It is not New Year's resolutions, but those Catboot resolutions that I keep.

Two years ago, I resolved to never ever buy clothes for my daughters without them present. I shopped for days picking out what I thought would be super-cute Christmas gifts for them, only to have to return all but two pieces. They were the wrong brand (Mom, I’m not ghetto!), wrong color (Mom, only “emos” wear black!), too loose, too tight, too itchy, too scratchy, too furry, too fuzzy, too pink or just plain ugly.

On my list of things I dislike more than New Year’s Eve, one would be standing in line to return things.

Since then, I buy the girls little goodies to open on Christmas and then we take a day during the break, head to the biggest mall in the area and I turn them loose with some money. They love it and I don’t have to return anything. That was a great resolution.

This year during Christmas and the UGG boot incident, I resolved never to shop at Nordstrom’s again. I never really shopped there anyway. That won’t be hard to keep. I’m adding Nordstrom’s to my list, which already includes Wickes Furniture and Circuit City.

Not all resolutions have to come from something unpleasant, though. I also decided a while back that if Bon Jovi is coming to Chicago, I will go to his concert. I work hard all the time so I vowed to treat myself once in a while. I’m worth it.

So, what about you guys? What resolutions (New Year’s or otherwise) have you been able to keep or not keep? Is it a struggle or do you just decide to change and it happens? I’m curious to know.

Happy New Year, my friends! I hope that 2008 brings all of you much health, love, happiness, peace and of course, a glass slipper or two :)

Oh we are such light weights over here as well. In fact we could probably open a bar with all the booze we buy intending to drink that instead sits in the cupboard when we get sleepy and throw in the towel. I had 1/2 a drink last night while Damien had 2 1/2, ha ha ha. As far as resolutions go, I feel kinda lame making any official ones because I know I will only break them and feel dumb the following year when I still haven't accomplished 'em. Happy New Year!!

I normally don't make New Year's resolutions. This year, however, I have vowed to get back on a fitness regimen. I started one last year and was doing really well. Once I was promoted into a different dept. at the company where I work, my schedule was thrown out of whack... and my fitness routine went down the tubes. Hopefully I will have better luck this year.

Mine that isn't technically being made is to loose all the baby weight once this baby arrives in July =)

You need to blog about taking your daughters shopping ... that must be full of stories and good times :)
