I Can't Believe That It's True

Several months ago, I sat at my computer screen hoping to get Hannah Montana tickets for my daughters. Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus is performing this Saturday in Chicago and since Friday is Middle Daughter’s birthday, I thought it would be a cool gift!

Even though I was sitting at my computer, I couldn’t get them. Gone. Sold out in a flash. By the next day, it was reported that people were selling them for $2,500 a piece, leaving me to break the bad news to the girls that as much as I know they’d like to go, I am not spending $10,000 for four Hannah Montana tickets.

Sorry. Not gonna happen.

It’s not just Hannah, I can’t think of one person I would pay that kind of money to see, period. Not even Bon Jovi.

This morning on the radio the announcer said that last night at some auction in Rockford, IL, a set of Hannah Montana tickets went to the highest bidder at (gasp!) $44,500!

Holy Moly/Miley!

I’m not saying I don’t like her, because I do. I’m just wondering what kind of magical powers she has that makes parents completely lose their minds to spend money like that on concert tickets.

I don't think the people who are buying those tickets are living paycheck to paycheck... But spending that kind of money on frivilous things, they're not doing their kids any favors.

I agree with Frigga...I was willing to go $200/ticket, which I still feel is way excessive, but we are all about Hannah Montana here. Have you played the Wii game? My 8 yr old loves it!

I saw her on Oprah a couple weeks ago, she seems like a nice person despite all the stuff she is privileged to :)

That is insane any parent would spend that amount of money on their child!!
I hope it included dinner and all the souvenirs imaginable!

My son gets mad if any of us talk when HM is on. It is so sad. But what's better? The Jonas Brothers? The Naked Brothers? (barf).

I tease him to no end about it. You know, I gotta have my fun if I have to stomach the show. We just put cable in his room tho, so that's a good thing!

I always call her Haley Ray Cyrus. You should see him get so mad when I do it over and over.

ahhhh, so much fun in our house! Thank you HM. aka Haley Ray Cyrus ;)

I don't think I could pick her out of a crowd. But seriously, when tickets go that fast, you have to wonder which ticket agency buys the blocks of tickets.

I can't even comprehend paying 5 figures to see anybody. The limit for me would probably be in the $150-$200 range. In a review that I read in Entertainment Weekly, it mentions that Miley sings live at her concerts. I remember a time when the fact that a performer was singing live didn't have to be mentioned in a review... it went without saying. The review ended by saying that at the end of the show, half the seats were empty because some parents and their kids left early because it was a school night. If it was me and I shelled out the kind of money they did, we would be staying for the whole show... I don't care what time it ended.
