Panic At The Disco! (Blogathon 66)

Or the bookstore. Wherever, I guess.

It’s no secret that I have a panic disorder. I have kryptonite level panic/anxiety attacks. Superman wouldn’t stand a chance against me, in an anxiety battle of wills. No way.

Due to about 40 Murphy’s Law type reasons, some more significant than others, I am finding myself having panic attacks several times a day. The worst are the ones that sneak up on you just as you are falling asleep. I hate those!

I don’t normally take anything for them, but when it gets this bad, my doctor usually prescribes Xanax for a ten day period of time. This happens maybe once a year or so. Unfortunately, this time it’s lasted for several months and my doctor said the meds were ok for me to take since I take such a small dose, but he’d really like me to find a therapist or a support group.

Gulp.

I can’t stand therapy. I don’t like to talk about things that bother me and I especially don’t like to talk about them with someone I have to pay to listen to me while they glance at their watch or a clock the whole while. No offense to the millions of wonderful therapists out there, but really, it’s not my thing.

I told the doctor I would try a support group thinking that maybe someone with a similar problem might have an idea that I haven’t tried yet. I found a local group online and signed myself up.

Since then, I have been bombarded by e-mails from people in the throws of panic attacks arguing and bickering over the location of the next meeting. Regardless of the location and time anyone suggests, it’s too far, not a good time, can’t drive, don’t drive, don’t go to bookstores, don’t go anywhere...blah, blah, blah!

I read through about 50 of them and decided that this meeting isn’t going to happen so I blocked them all from e-mailing me in the future because, you know what, the support group is giving me panic attacks!

I’m going to stick with ranting on my blog as therapy. It works the best of anything I’ve tried so far!

Sigh.

COMING UP NEXT: A video performance from my oldest daughter and her high school concert choir! Well, that's if YouTube works. What is with that today? Geez. If not, I will tackle another Q and A!

I just really don't need or want a group. Last time I had a group it was a similar situation. I'm way better without a group, for sure :)

My hubby tried group therapy for depression while we were dating.

He always walked away from it feeling worse than before!
