The Big BahUna's Soundtrack (Blogathon 45)

This guest entry was written by one of my closest friends, The Big BahUna. He doesn't have a blog (yet anyway!) but if you click on his name, you can hear him sing!

Why is music so important to me? That is easy! Life is like a movie in some respects; there is a beginning, middle and end and music is the soundtrack to that movie. Your movie, my movie. The one that goes on inside my head, your head. Full of flashbacks, flash forwards, action, fantasy, tragedy…….all that stuff that is in, you know, a movie. I can define allot of my life by what songs were on the radio as most of you can. You know how a smell can bring back a memory? Well, music can too! Even if you hate a song, or love a song, you can, or I can, attribute it to something that happened in my life; good, bad or indifferent. When my heart was broken for the first time when I was 18, on Christmas day no less…..I was driving home in my sister’s car and heard Elton John’s “I guess that’s why they call it ‘the blues’” on the radio. Not that I was a big fan of the song, but it really got to me and actually made things worse. A perfect song for that scene in my movie, no? so to this day, whenever I hear that song, it takes me back to 1983 and I feel just a little of that pain again……

But music also brings back the good as well. Chicago’s “Saturday in the park” reminds me of summer trips to the cottage in the station wagon; feeling the cool summer breezes through the open windows as we made our made north. A great travel scene song for my movie.

Then there is Bruce Springsteen’s “No surrender”. This song reminds me of the group of guys that I grew up with in my neighborhood. We thought we were the coolest and toughest guys around. Sometimes we were right, sometimes we were wrong. We spent the first 20-plus years of our lives together almost every day and still are very close. Give that song a listen and you can see why it is a great song for a movie. It is in mine!

It can also be said that every song is a movie in itself. Try it, you will see. Some movies however, are better than others; you can compare “Born to Run” to “Baby got back” like “Citizen Kane” to “Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo”………

Music is the soundtrack to my life and I have shared a few of my scenes and the score behind it. What is on your soundtrack?
