We Can Work It Out (Thursday Thirteen #7)

My name is Jessica The Rock Chick and I have a confession to make. I’m in love with my 24” iMac. That’s right. One week with my new iMac and I've realized my longtime relationship with PC just won't work for me anymore.

I am probably cheating a bit by running dual operating systems. More like cheaping I suppose than cheating. The computer itself was pretty expensive and if I had to replace all of my Windows version software, I wouldn’t be able to afford the electricity required to operate the computer. (And, ok, my favorite online poker site isn’t Mac compatible.)

Today is Thursday Thirteen and here’s mine...

Thirteen Reasons Why I Love My iMac

1. It just looks cooler. 24” inches of widescreen coolness packed into a sleek one piece high powered system. It doesn’t hang up, it doesn’t crash and all of the icons are at the bottom of the screen. You can actually get to them without minimizing everything you are working on!

2. It’s all wireless. Mouse. Keyboard. Internet. Only one power cord and that’s it.

3. I plug in any USB cable and OMG...it recognizes whatever it is and it actually works immediately. No drivers, no downloads. No rebooting.

4. The built in speakers and video display are awesome! I’m not much of a gamer, but my Sims family is quite happy with their new non-crashing lifestyles.

5. Photo Booth. This little piece of software has given us much amusement over the past couple of days. A click of a button and 3-2-1 you have a Photo Booth style picture right from the built in camera, cheesy faces and all.

6. GarageBand. And my keyboard....a totally rockin’ 61 key electric piano keyboard! I plug it in, select an instrument sound and accompaniment and I am not only The Rock Chick, I am my own rock band. Bon Jovi, here I come!

7. iMovie. WOW! I had never done any video editing before and within a week, not only do I have several totally grandparent-giftable DVDs of the kids, I actually made a music video for a band! I was Employee of the Month for the band before making the video. Imagine the possibilities now!

8. iPhoto. Do you know how wonderful it is to push a button on your camera and all of your pictures just automatically go to your computer in a nicely dated folder?

9. iTunes and iPod. I was probably the only iPodless Rock Chick in the world, but most of my music was Windows based. Trying to get that music onto my MP3 player was just a hassle so I never really used it. I got my CDs now in iTunes, plugged in the iPod and it worked. My iPod even plays my new video masterpieces and my GarageBand creations.

10. Parallels. Its allowing me to run OS X and Windows simultaneously so I don’t have to replace my Adobe and Macromedia Software Suites. I suppose in a way it’s like a Windows nicotine patch or something. I admit, I am suffering a bit from right-click withdrawal.

11. No viruses. That’s right. No more updates, no more scans, no more worries.

12. iWeb and .mac- I do web design and initially I thought this software would be too simplistic and I probably wouldn’t use it. Not true. Everything you make in the iLife suite of software (included on the Mac) works seamlessly together. I was able to post videos and music in a well presented manner in a matter of minutes. Unbelievable. I haven’t even tried the podcasts or the blogging features yet!

13. It just works. The computer works, the software works, the peripherals work and now I can work at making some pretty fantastic stuff instead of trying to get my computer work.

I’m sorry PC, but I’m a one computer gal. It was fun while it lasted but I don’t think we can work it out.

I'm jealous already. I want a MAC, but I had to have a PC for work up until about a month ago. Now I want a new computer again!

Macs are great. :) My human has used them at work, but at home she likes her PC, since most of her computer games aren't available for Mac. :( She's also probably the only person without an iPod! She has a Creative MuVo player that she loves for running.

Thanks for visiting and happy T13. :)

I'm wouldn't trade my mac for anything. So your singing to the choir ~ or another similar well-used cliche. I enjoyed your posting. This is week # 2 for TT for me.

and the best thing about parallels is, you can zip up your XP directory, so when you do get a pc virus you can just reset the whole system back to a heathy state. I am totally in love with all my macs. I'm sitting under one right now, in fact -- MBP c2d! :) Happy TT, mine's up!

I am in the market for a new laptop and have been really looking at a Mac. You might have sold me on it now!

Thanks for stopping by!

My co-wroker is a musician and he raves about his iMac. I would definitely love to have one.

Maybe sometime in my future life when I can afford it.

btw, i voted for you at the T13 Hub. You were the only one in that list that visited me last week,.

My cousin just got one of those and she loves it for the same reasons you do. Maybe I'll try it some day.

I can't imagine what all the fuss is about with apple vs pc, but after reading your TT, I can see how people really love their apples. My niece was appalled at a YouTube parody about Apples. (However, at the end, it gave credit to Apple for all of the graphics).

Hope you visit my blog and can leave a comment. I liked reading what you had to say about your ex. Some men are really a trip.

Sounds like you are enjoying life quite fully right now! Yeah for good computers!

Great list! My hubs is a die hard Mac fan and hates that he has to work on them during the day. :O) Happy 13!

Having been in the PC camp most of my life, I find myself, recently, having serious MAC-lust. Partly this is because there are some writing tools that are only available on for MAC OS, partly it's because I'm sick of being the virus cop.

Alas, can't justify a new computer just yet.

I would be afraid of the damage an imac would do to my bank balance! But they are pretty!

I know many people who once they had a Mac could never go back !
Happy Thursday.

Jessica - I have three computers in my office - my Dell PC, my iMac, and a Sony Vaio laptop. They all play nicely together and they are like children - I just can't pick a favorite.

Thanks for visiting me at WearyParent.com! Happy TT!

I'd love to have a Mac. But I can get all the bells and whistles on a PC and not have many problems at all, for half the price, OR LESS...

But yes, Macs are cooler. Don't you just love those Mac vs PC commercials on TV?? They always make me laugh!

I'm jealous too! :) Have fun with your new toy!

I just started at a new job and there on my desk is a brand spanking new iMac - I've never used a Mac before, but after only two days I'm totally impressed!

Thanks for sharing all that it can do - I can't wait to figure it all out :-)

WoW That sounds like a chunk of change. I've heard that once you go Mac you never go back ...one of these days I'll be able to afford one.

Thanks for swinging by my TT!

I've heard so many wonderful things about iMacs but have never had the pleasure. I learned on a PC and unfortunately everything we have is geared that way.

Thanks for coming by my Thirteen today and leaving such a nice comment. For some reason it got caught by my spam filter and I thought I de-spammed you but I didn't. :( I'd love it if you'd come back by and try again so I can teach my darned platform that you ARE NOT an evil spammer.

Anyway, have a great Thursday!

I am on my second ibook and my son got a Mac book for college. It is awesome, we can chat and I can see him! Unlike many of his friends, he did not have to contend with viruses and loved Halo which I got him for Christmas.
Nice to hear so many positives - you should be on the commercials with the guys. Wouldn't that be cool, they could have girlfriends and you could be raving about how easy the mac is, while the pc girlfriend would be whining....lol.
Great blog!

The imac sounds awesome. I've been thinking of making a similar switch. Thanks for laying out the positive reasons. Any negatives?

Thanks also for stopping by my TT. I love your sidebar graphic.

welcome to the dark side. we have apples.

i own a 15" PowerBook G4 and love every inch of that thing. I can't wait to upgrade to an intel core duo Mac, but since they cost an arm and a leg, I'm going to invest in some extra memory for this baby and make sure she flies.

You need to name your computer. Something that reflects the unbelievable sex appeal we all know it has.

Old and busted.... new hotness....

bring on the new hotness!

Thanks for visiting my blog. I just read your TT, and have to admit that once I get my bonus from work, I am thinking about a new computer. I have only heard good things about Macs.

Well well well ... isn't this funny: You came by my T13 and I kept thinking all day yesterday that I'd eventually get to go out on the web visiting ... FINALLY just when I was minutes away from finishing my project and getting to get away from my blog ... my pc died! One quick little blingk sound and it was a boat anchor.

Then a series of events happened that has me toying with the idea that going mac is possible ... probable even.

Then finally this morning I get to start out visiting the people who came to see me ... and wa-la! Here we are ... more mac chatter!

Interesting ... verrry interesting.

You definitely fuel the flame!

I'll let you know how it goes.

OH! Thanks for stopping by my T13.

I'm with you Apple girl! I bought my MacBook in September and have no regrets. We have since bought two nano's (for the kids), one shuffle (for my husband since I had kind of taken the video iPod as mine), dotMac and a desktop system for the kids. Getting the ProCare account was great because it allows me to go in for personal training sessions at the Apple store whenever I want.

I am probably the only woman in Boca who spends more at the Apple store than the rest of the mall combined!

For real fun, use Photo Booth with an 18 month old. My friend's daughter was mesmerized doing it on my laptop. Then my friend got on her computer about 10 feet away and got us on video chat. I think her little girl was a little stressed in the brain by that whole thing!

Just remember...friends don't let friends buy PC's!
