I'll Stand By You

Last night my son and I did something out of the ordinary, fun, and it didn’t require an Emergency Room visit! Not that I wasn’t at the Emergency Room today because I was, but that’s another story I’ll tell you later. When I stop shaking.

Anyway, Danny and I stood in a crowded Walgreens aisle for over an hour for the chance to meet Robbie Gould of The Chicago Bears.

The waiting would have been a little more tolerable if the fan packed aisle wasn’t full of soaking wet people who just ran in from the rain. It was a little damp and in order not to have to smell the teenaged boys (who had just come from some sports practice) in front of us, I decided to pass the time by eavesdropping on people’s conversations behind me.

YAWN. Three geeky guys behind me discussing the pros and cons of manual vs. automatic transmission. Fascinating.

That certainly wasn’t going to keep my mind occupied so I decided to see what I could find in the aisle. I never really look at things when I shop, I just grab what I need and run.

Not much to look at on this side unless you are a fan of Sponge Bob dixie cups. Personally, I can take them or leave them, know what I mean?

On the other side of the aisle was a true find! Puffs tissues with lotion and Vicks vaporub on them. Gross. Are we becoming that lazy that we have to buy pre-snotted tissues! ACK!

My son was getting anxious and we were only inching forward every few minutes and then finally...we reached a section I could easily amuse myself in! Books! How can anyone not love them?

I told Danny to pick out a book to pass the time, but he was only interested in Robbie Gould. How much longer? What should he say to him? I could tell he was excited by the way he was clutching his Bears shirt, eagerly awaiting it to be autographed by one of his sports heroes.

Ahhhhh, there’s nothing quite like stalking celebrities. I feel that same way when I follow Bon Jovi around.

We were finally nearing the finish line when I spotted this little gem in the "As Seen On TV" section. It’s an “Over The Shoulder” organizer. I believe this contraption might have previously been patented under the name "purse"... just saying.

Finally, it was our turn! Robbie Gould was as pleasant as could be and extended his hand to shake with my son who looked completely star struck. Quietly, Danny just passed him the t-shirt across the table to be signed.

Robbie then asked my son if he’d like to take a picture and I almost fell over when my son shook his head to mean “no”.

WHAT? Danny's a little shy and he was star struck. Not wanting to waste the hour we stood there and the picture I had already paid for, I said “Robbie, I’ll stand by you!”. A click of the camera and another thirty minute line to retrieve the picture and that was it. We were done.

Here’s me and my new boyfriend (I’m teasing, of course-no worries, JW!) Robbie Gould, superfantabulous kicker for The Chicago Bears!

Please ignore my hair. The rain on Hysteria Lane is not good for my Posh Spice 'do!

You are so pretty!! :)
And I love your shirt.

I was surprised to see books (and the amount of them!) in Walgreens - kind of a weird place to sell books!! But oh well.

Hey RC,

You look different than I expected. Very attractive and not like I envision a "Rock Chick" (not that Rock Chicks aren't good looking). Maybe I was expecting purple hair or some visible piercings. Anyhow I am glad you and your son had the privilege of meeting a player from the Bears. Too cool!

Jessica: Well, thank you!!! I love that shirt, too. It's my favorite :) Our Walgreens has a HUGE books and magazine section. It's one of the newer Walgreens so it's pretty big inside.

Pjazzy: Thank you for the compliment, too, but shhhh...you're going to blow my "rock chick" cover! LOL Truth be told, I'm far more "choir girl" than a "rock chick", but everybody probably already figured that out already, right?

Crystal: It was fun and he seems very personable! Thank you!
