Flip The Switch

Do you believe in signs? I don’t always want to, but right now I feel like Obi-Wan Kenobi is frantically jumping up and down, swooshing his lightsaber and directing me towards the force. In this instance, forcing me towards change.

I’m feeling it, I’m just not sure I want to go.

In general, I am somewhat resistant to change. I just don’t like it. Especially when I don’t think what I’m changing to is any better than what I’m changing from.

I’ve been toying with the idea of moving my blog to a custom domain powered by the almighty Wordpress. All the cool kids are rumored to be using it. I don’t believe that to be true, and I’ve certainly never been one to succumb to peer pressure, but I do like the way you can reply to a comment within the original comment on Wordpress. Interacting with your readers is not only fun, it’s key to successful blogging and that is a much cleaner and more organized way to respond.

I’ve been hesitant to make the switch because I was so close to having an A-List Technorati score on this blog. Instead of recognizing me as the hot rock chick, Technorati decided to dump me like..well...a hot rock. Sign #1.

Working with any kind of website can be somewhat irritating at times. All you need is one little thing wrong with your code and KA-POWEE, eeeet don’t werk no more. It’s especially frustrating when you work to customize your site and some glitch happens and wipes the whole thing out. I’m thinking the Blogger server had such a glitch because I was unable to access this blog for several hours. Once I could, I discovered that my entire template had been wiped out. Replacing the background template is easy, it’s replacing every link and every customization I’ve done over the last year and a half that’s going to be a PITA.

That’s the Rock Chick code word for Pain In The Ass and that is, without a doubt, Sign #2.

My new blogging platform is technically ready to go at www.the-rock-chick.com, I just don’t like the way it looks yet. Instead of putting all of the links and such back on this site, I’m going to concentrate on turning my Wordpress template into something I do like and see if I can learn to love that blog as much as I do this one.

The signs say it’s time to flip the switch and make the move. I’m not sure yet. I'll be duplicating my posts between the two sites for the time being just in case I decide to switch back.

Head on over there and let me know what you think. All comments, positive or negative, are more than welcome!

I didn't like Wordpress and for the longest time designed my site with notepad of all things. Yep, plain old HTML. Now I'm a Typepad junkie, but only because I've become lazy. Good luck with the new platform.

I hope it works out for you. I've been wanting to get my own URL for a while, but the one I want is taken so I keep putting it off.

Good luck with your decision. I'm sure Damien at Riley Central will push for Wordpress...

And incidentally, if it was the young Obi Wan Kenobi jumping around me, I wouldn't mind that at all. Not. One. Bit.

I'm way too lazy to work on a new site. I haven't changed my Blogger look since I started it. I tend to like plain and simple anyway.

I like the way your other one looks. It's clean and neat. I absolutely despise MySpace. People always have weird backgrounds that make it hard to read.
