Sinking (Blogathon 69)
Just in case anyone is interested, I found this in the Yahoo! Entertainment section.
LOS ANGELES - The man who bought Jerry Garcia's house 10 years ago is selling everything, including the kitchen sink.
Henry Koltys — who sold the deceased Grateful Dead guitarist's toilet and other fixtures last year — said Friday he was clearing out the last of his Grateful Dead inventory, offering up the kitchen sink, Jacuzzi, stereo speakers and several other items on eBay.
The toilet, from the master bedroom suite, fetched $2,500 at a similar auction last year.
Like that auction, this one will benefit the Sophia Foundation, a San Francisco Bay area nonprofit that aids children and families during marital separations and divorces, Koltys said.
"This charity auction allows me to combine my interest in protecting and helping these families and my love for Jerry Garcia's music," said Koltys, who is the foundation's chairman and developer of KidsFirst! software.
The items will be auctioned on eBay on Aug. 12-19, he said.
Garcia died of a heart attack in 1995 at age 53. Koltys bought his Marin County house from the musician's estate in 1997 and put the fixtures in storage before renovating and reselling it.
You know, I can totally understand buying things that belonged to celebrities. It’s cool and it could even be a conversation piece. His stereo speakers? Yeah, that’s cool!
What on earth does one do with Jerry Garcia’s toilet or kitchen sink, though? Remodel the respective rooms so that these items fit or does one put this toilet in a corner of their living room as a decoration and just explain to anyone who walks in that it’s Jerry Garcia’s toilet?
I don’t get it. Some things, yes, but anybody’s toilet, no thanks. I don’t even want Bon Jovi’s toilet...for free even.

COMING UP NEXT: Still trying YouTube. I'm not holding my breath. If it doesn't work, I will tackle another Q and A!

One could be in the beginning or middle of a remodel -- good time to buy the items. Maybe semi-easily install them in a workshop (and workshop bathroom.) Or -- think outside the box... perhaps the toilet could be used as a planter in someone's eccentricly unique backyard. Might not be how you'd design but for some people it can actually not be tacky and keeping an open mind you might even agree (so long as the design is tasteful and inventive and it works, ya know!)
While I despise consumer excess and buying for the heck of buying, the auction is for charity so why not?!
