Win, Lose or Draw?

I have to interrupt my previously scheduled rant regarding frugality (hang in there, Jessica, the post you are waiting for is coming, I promise!) because I have an important statement to make.

For the first time ever, I like both American Idol finalists equally.

Each of the two Davids sort of remind me of my two favorite performers, Bon Jovi and Barry Manilow. Odd combo, I know and I’ll let you figure out which one is which :)

For me, it’s a draw. I think David Archuleta is superior vocally, but I think David Cook’s style would appeal to a much wider audience and I think he has a much greater chance of success in the long run.

I’m just wondering why David Cook let David Archuleta blow him completely out of the water in last night’s show. It was weird! Cook’s been in to win this whole time. Why the sudden lack of gusto and boring song choices?

Yes, Cook’s had some performances that were much better than others, but last night’s show was by far his worst. Don’t get me wrong, even at his worst, he’s still damn good. That’s not my point.

Being “The Idol” is certainly no guarantee of success, after all. Many of those voted off in previous years have been far more successful than the actual American Idol of that year.

Could David Cook want to place second and not have to be bound by Idol’s contract?

Up until last night, I really thought Cook was going to sneak through the teenybopper votes and take the Idol crown, but now I’m going to have to give it to Archuleta.

I’m anxious to see what happens! Did anyone else think that David Cook’s performances and song choices were extremely odd at this stage of the game?

Great minds think alike. You know I think David Cook threw the competition and probably for the reasons you specified. It really doesn't matter because Cook has all the recognition he needs to go out and be a success. Remember Chris Daughety and Jennifer Hudson were not even in the top three and look what happened to their careers.

Oh yeah RC, did you get a load of Fantasia last week? Now that was scary and even more priceless was the look on Simon's face after her performance (LOL).

Pjazzy: OMG Fantasia! Personally, I just never understood why people like her as a performer. Her screaming is bordering on a nails on a chalkboard type thing. I don't get her at all!

I guess we shouldn't even open a Psychic Hotline together! LOL. I thought for sure Archuleta was going to win that, but I'm soooo glad David Cook won! I really like him.

Ms. Cleo I am not! (LOL). He only won by 12 million votes...go figure. I am glad he won also, he was my favorite since "Billie Jean". On a side note: Fantasia is nerve-wrecking.

Well, even with a less than stellar performance on the night he should have given it his all, David Cook walked away with the win easily. And personally I am glad because I think David A. has to take time to mature before he will really be a full fledged force to contend with. The fact is they will both go places I think, and it has to be the first season ever where there was such a crop of true talent.
Last night's show was awesome!

I have to agree with Sassy Mama Bear to a degree about this year's talent, which has been truly awesome. However this was the first year they even allowed contestants to play instruments, which in my opinion made some contestants appear to be even more talented.

Every year on Idol I have seen some truly talented people, taking into consideration that ultimately this is a singing competition (as Simon likes to point out) I remember Kelly Clarkson, Tamyra Gray, and even Justin Guarini being very talented singers. As were Ruben Studdard, Clay Aikens, Latoya London, Jennifer Hudson, and the list goes on. Last year's Melinda Doolittle (who should have won) was awesome. I didn't care that much for the Jordin Sparks, still don't.

I also agree David A. could stand to gain more industry savvy, but if he had won there would have been little difference between him and last years winner, other than the fact that he is a better singer.

Not sure why I feel compelled to analyze this. My son and I preferred David Cook overwhelmingly....but I was still angry that Carly got kicked off before dreadlock/dreadful guy.

I think Simon purposely did the whole "first round Archuleta" thing because he really likes David Cook. He made that comment about David Cook being one of the nicest contestants they have ever had. I think Simon knows that if he indicates that David A was better and David C becomes the underdog, people wil be more passionate about voting for David C. And look what happened!!!

I didn't think Imagine was good at all. Certainly not the best performance of the year. Imagine is an amazing simple song by one of the best songwriters of our time...it didn't need all the trills and embellishments. I liked that David C chose a song he hadn't performed before for the ending.

I kind of feel better getting all this American Idol pent up feeling out. Thanks!
