Holy Smokes!

My last post was about manners and the lack thereof. In an attempt to turn this world around, I have another random tidbit for society.

Yesterday my husband got a belated birthday gift. It was a carton of cigarettes. I know it’s not good manners to be unappreciative of a gift, but unless you are someone’s prison bitch and need to barter for your safety or something, a carton of cigarettes really is not a good birthday gift choice.

Better to just send a card if you can’t think of anything else.

Speaking of smokin’, though, my supertalented friend The Big BahUna was here all weekend helping to turn my house from something you’d see on COPS to Hysteria Lane acceptable by putting a smokin’ hot front porch on my house.

Here’s the before...

And here’s the after...

It still needs some finishing touches and a step but that will happen tomorrow. I’m so enjoying the added space and the Hysteria Lane people watching view.

I even planted some flowers and put in some solar lights to the left of the porch! I have never successfully grown a plant, so I’ll have to see how it goes, err...grows. Now I just need some new grass (definitely not the smoking kind) and I will have a really nice front yard.

In other Rock Chick news, yesterday was a big day for Oldest Daughter. She smoked her competition and found out that she made the Varsity Cheerleading Squad and got a coveted spot in swing choir for the upcoming school year.

So now I have not one, not two, but three daughters on the high school’s Varsity Squad next year. Expensive, yes, but the same practice schedule is priceless!

The swing choir spot is kind of emotional to me. My kids attend the same high school that I did and performing with the swing choir was, by far, one of my most cherished high school experiences. It will be very cool to see my mini-me following in my footsteps a bit!

I'm beginning to think I may have successfully kicked Murphy and his laws out of my house. My catboots aren’t all smoke and mirrors, you know. They do work sometimes.

Don't forget to hop over to Malcolm's and play his Tuesday Trivia game!

Awesome progress on the porch! Fair warning...it might get a little confusing if a "ch" stubs it's toe or something because then you'll feel compelled to say "awwww...poor 'ch'" and people might think you're talking about your porch and they'll wonder why you feel bad for your porch.

My comment does, however, evoke one to ask a question...what the HECK is a "ch"???

OMG the porch is awesome! How can I become friends with the Big BahUna? Congrats to oldest daughter! "swing choir?" Like swing music???

All those Varsity Cheerleaders at your house!! Is the estrogen flow killing you?

Peace to you! Sounds like you could use it.

dustin: LOL...there must be a "ch" out there somewhere! Hopefully, though, it's not hiding under my porch :)

shelly: thanks! I'm totally loving the porch! You can come rock chicking with me anytime and meet The BahUna. Here they use the phrase "swing choir", but I think the more used term is "show choir". They perform all types of music, but dance while singing. If you YouTube show choir, there's lots of examples.

The porch looks great. What a difference a porch can make, huh? And congrats to Oldest on both counts and to you for having ONE practice schedule.

Wow I am so proud of the girls, I expect pictures will be shared in the future. Love the porch.
Yeah I agree a carton of smokes would rank as a seriously tacky gift.

I recently killed spearmint that I was growing ... and it's a weed! I'm just that good! :)

The porch is looking good. It changes the look of the house substantially. Good luck with those flowers.

I apologize for my husband... he is bizarre. Totally lovable though.

The porch looks great, "ch" or not.
