Be Our (ok, my) Guest

Yesterday I announced to the world that I would be participating in Blogathon 2007 in order to raise money for VH1 Save The Music Foundation. In doing so, I even inspired one of my readers, KayKayZowie, to sign herself up to participate, as well! More blogging buddies,I love it! I’m hoping to inspire some of you to sponsor me in this endeavor, as well. Yes, it’s shameless self-promotion, but what else can I do?

I was a little worried about how to occupy 24 hours of online time during this event. Sara gave me some great ideas and I did a little more thinking. I thought that I had a rock chick gig during the course of the event. I am married to a technology genius so I thought how fun would it be to wire myself up and broadcast LIVE from a gig! As it turns out, my rock chick gig is the following evening, so I’ll have to think of something else or get them a gig for that night, too. I’ll see what I can do!

My second idea was to have a few “guest bloggers”. Most of my immediate friends are musicians (or think they are, anyway) and I thought getting their takes on how important music has been to their lives would be totally cool! If you would like to be a guest blogger during Blogathon and tell the world why you love music, just let me know and you’re in!

I’m going to introduce you right now to one of my chosen “guest bloggers”, The Big BahUna. The BahUna and I go way back to high school, although we weren’t friends at that time. During the course of our lives, The BahUna and I have attended school together, worked at the same place in college, our mothers were co-workers and friends and for the last 8 years, we have even been working for the same company. Despite all of these things, our paths really didn’t cross until our 20th high school reunion a few years back and I’m very glad they they did. The Big BahUna has rapidly become one of my closest and (even better!) my lowest maintenance friend ever! I can’t tell you how much I like that in a person.

Not only is The Big BahUna a total rock star, fellow Bon Jovi admirer and ET commentator (cough), he’s quite a writer and has a great sense of humor, too. I’ve been after him to get his own blog and I’ve convinced him to try a “rant” out for size here on my blog. Just don’t be drinking anything when you get to the end and feel free to comment and convince him to start writing!

Just an FYI...”BM” is the one who wanted to revoke my rock chick tiara several weeks ago! I feel BahUna’s “frustrations” completely.

So, without further ado... please give a rock chick welcome to the one and only, Big BahUna and stop back in a bit for my “rant”....(sigh)....

The Big BahUna Wonders...

I must ask a question; what part of the phrase “please don’t call me” is hard to understand?

It is a short, direct, polite way to say “please don’t call me”. As far as I know, the intended recipient is fluent in English; both the written and spoken word. So how come after making this statement in writing, do I receive a phone call from the very person I asked not to call?

Are people that stupid or do they just not care about other’s wishes? It appears that this particular person is the latter. OK, maybe a little of both. BM (as we will call him) is quite the insecure, passive-aggressive type that EVERYBODY loves to have around...

He will go around to people in the periphery complaining about you and whatever situation is at hand, but when it comes to stating how he feels directly, he either won’t or he will do something “sinister” like forgetting to bring copies of needed documents for the group, but alas, he has one for himself...that will teach ‘em! I can see him twirling his mustache now!

He is also the same person that when you make a blanket statement for everyone like “please don’t call me”, he thinks it pertains to everyone BUT him! So, should I be so bold as to say “please don’t call me and this means you BM!”. I don’t think I should be so overt. or, maybe I should.

I also think he feels he is immune to these direct, simple requests as his judgment is clouded by what is known as a “man-crush”. He has Davy Jones stars twirling in his eyes when it comes to yours truly. I don’t mean to brag, but it’s true. Others know this for a fact and have told me, too.

To be honest, I am not flattered. I kinda feel like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever when the portly, not so attractive girl comes up to him and says “I love to watch you dance, Tony...can I wipe your brow?”

However, it is not like he is a bad guy, just ever now and then, more “now” than “then”, he gets so insecure that he attaches himself to my rear quarters like a barnacle or more like a rash and I need some A+D ointment stat!

Every once in a while, after he senses some consternation on my part, he will bestow a small gift, usually homemade, upon me. I suppose I am then to take him into my bosom, rock him and tell him everything will be o.k. with an occasional “there, there” thrown in for good measure.

Oh, yeah and besides homemade gifts, he thinks I am open to anything and everything he has no use for; coats, golf clubs and yes, even furniture. I have a lovely Parquet coffee table with a non-matching end table set in my garage as we speak. Anyone for a XXXL leather coat that weighs, oh I dunno, 14 pounds?

“Hey BM, golf clubs are no longer made of wood!”

I guess he takes the saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” to mean “BM’s trash is best at ____’s house.”

I can also tell when his crush is strong as he arrives early for all get togethers. For example, last week we had a party for family and friends supposed to start at 4:00 PM. BM arrived promptly at 3:15! Grandparents don’t even arrive at 4:00 PM unless it is for the senior special at Culver’s or the Friday fish fry during lent (Is the halibut fresh?).

I’m sure we’ve all had plenty of BM’s, some tougher than others....this one in particular is quite dense....

Just remember; people say what they mean and mean what they say. It’s true! No cryptic message intended. BM “don’t call us, we’ll call you”.
